Danny ChenIn the past few weeks, we have talked about extent, condition, significance, baseline, additionality, safeguard, benefit sharing, and communication, when developing a carbon credit project with biodiversity outcome.
All these different sections help stakeholders to review and evaluate the project quality and robustness. To warp up what we have learned, here is the implementation process flow that connects all our previous knowledge.
#1: Define the extent with each ecosystem type
#2: Select ecosystem condition indicators
#3: Define reference values for standardization
#4: Measure condition indicators at the start
#5: Standardize the condition with reference values
#6: Equally weighted condition indicators for overall estimate
#7: Calculate the outcome of extent multiplied by conditions
#8: Determine the project baseline crediting trends
#9: Monitor the project impacts with technologies
#10: Determine any negative impacts outside the projects
#11: Calculate the net biodiversity outcomes
#12: Deposit a portion percentage for shared buffer pools
#13: Issue the nature credits in the market for sales
As a stakeholder, the overview highlights key aspects that contribute to the overall quality of biodiversity impact projects. Next time, when you see greenwashing accusations on a specific project, the learning journey you’ve been through will give you an independent view on judgment and potentially help to improve the process and methodology in the next public consultation window.
