The stronger the marketing, the more damage of greenwashing.
As a stakeholder who purchases carbon credit projects with nature-positive outcomes, how should we communicate to the public?
The communication shall be classified according to the project development phase:
Stage 1: Project before Validation Process: The project has prepared nature biodiversity activities in the stakeholder consultation that aims to follow the SD Vista Nature framework.
Stage 2: Validated Project, Not Verified Yet: The SD Vista was used in the project and validated to generate potential biodiversity uplift of numbers of quality hectares
Stage 3: Verified Project: Activities from the project resulted in the number of quality hectares of natural ecosystems from January 1, 2x01 to December 31, 2x02 compared to the baseline scenario.
Stage 4: Retired Project: When the project retires from buyers. Buyers must transparently communicate that nature credit cannot be used to offset the negative biodiversity impacts that have been made. However, these biodiversity outcomes would not have occurred without the financing of the project intervention.
If the communication violates the standard requirements, all account activities are stopped as a penalty for the end user’s misrepresentation.
Biodiversity is an important topic that changes in a complex, open ecosystem. In order to invite more people to join the biodiversity movement, having a rule-based communication requirement will help build up the long-term market trust with stakeholders.
